I get about 16 in town, 18 mixed, and as high as 21 keeping below 2k RPMs...which with a 6spd and 4.10s is about 50mph. But I don't think you can get 4.10s behind the G56 can you??
The guys with the 3.73s seem to be averaging around 20mpg or better on the highway. steved |

The good, the bad and the Ugly........
My truck has never seen a tank avg over 11.99 MPG. Most of my mileage is Innerstate. I've got an auto and 3.73's. Steve, can you tell me how fast you drive? |

Most would say "old man" speed applies to me...I average between 60 and 65 mph on the interstate (any faster and the fuel gauge drops faster than the RPMs climb it seems). I never get in a hurry because of traffic around here and the fact that 4.10s yeild about 2300RPM at 70mph...If I want "the best" mpg I can get...50-55 mph seems to be the trick. Keeping my shifts below 2k RPM also makes a marked difference in mpg...which sucks because you practically get run over driving this way in Philadelphia taffic... I have an Amsoil filter in a "swiss cheese" box, a [almost] straight 4inch exhaust (turbo back...it is an 2004.5 600CTD), and a RokkTech CPS sensor. I got my best mileage with around 5k miles on the truck driving flatland of TX (with 4.10s and 245s!!!!!!) at 21mpg...I did average around 16mpg until the Amsoil/RokkTech sensor install...that netted quite a bit right there...exhaust didn't really improve anything...I now have almost 60k on the truck (and 265 tires)...and like I stated, generally around 18 mpg...leaving for ME tomorrow morning with my small trailer (doesn't affect my mileage) so I will get a "long" test of all the mods. Additionally, I got my absolute best mpg with 315x70R17s bfg's...at 23-24mpg (hand calculated...it dropped my RPMs which caused the increase)..but I had to get rid of them because they were such junk tires (couldn't keep them balanced)...I wish I could find a set of pizza cutters (I ran a 255x85R16 on my 99 and it was great!) for this truck. Are you hand calculating or going by the overhead?? steved |
