running truck out of fuel

how bad is it on the truck to run it out of fuel. Didn't do it on purpose and try to not let it get this low but i was in my truck trying to find a diesel station and it said 25 miles till empty. a couple miles later it says 20 miles till empty and the truck started sputtering real bad and acting like it was going to cut off. I was about a mile away from the station and had to pretty much coast there. Took 26.8 gallon to get the truck full. I am worried about it damaging something like the injectors. guess I need to fill it up when it gets down to 1/4 tank b/c the computer doesn't seem real ccurate

Can be bad but i would bet your ok. just fill it up and maybe add a lil 2cycle oil 1oz per gal to your fuel to give them a nice "treat"

thanks for the help. I added 2 cycle oil when I filled up. Truck seems to be running fine now.

them things drop like a rock...dont depend on'em .....refuel when you know it needs it...

they should be fine. dont let it happen a lot, then you will start to run into injector problems. and as stated, fill up when you KNOW you need to. not when it tells you to.

Agreed, mine did the same exact thing when I first had it. Was in an unfamilar city and it said 30 miles to empty. Looking for a station and at 24 miles it sputtered/started missing. Just barely made it!

VERY bad.

THE #1 cause of injector issues on the 6.0L is low (or no) fuel pressure while the engine is operating. The pintle literally SLAMS into the inner surface of the injector tip w/o ANY cushioning of the fuel.

i know low fuel pressure is a killer for these injectors. so did i do any damge??
