6.2 vs.6.5

so i already posted this in the 6.2 part but i thought i would post it here to.

My dad found a military 6.2 turbo in a 95 chevy diesel that the guy just put in it but the IP is bad and he got mad and bought a new pick up so he is selling it. but is how he ended up with it is a some place back east told him that this military 6.2 would be stronger then a 6.5 motor. so is this a bunch of horse pucky or what? i had never heard of such a thing so i need help.... lots if it lol.
Thanks, HP Freak

There is no real difference between the civilian and military 6.2L/6.5L engines, none are considered "good" diesels.

Banks put out a turbo kit for the 6.2.

IIRC it was available at some dealerships as a dealer install....

yep, it was an option the last year of the 6.2, also i think some of the 6.2 hummers got fitted with turbos, either as an upgrade, or the mechanics doing it themselves.

put it in 3rd. gear & nailed it & it took off like a missile for about 50 ft. & then the turbo exploded kinda like a missile!!!

Coolness thats something i didn't know about the 6.2L. I work with a guy who has a 6.2 and i got a 6.5T his truck seems way more peppy than mine.

We've never raced each other or locked bumpers but he just hits the throttle and it send the tires up in smoke with ease. . .

I did how ever race a 4.3l 4x4 S-10 blazer with 30's and it walked all over my truck. . .

So i'm guessing the 6.5T is just a driver not race car or a heavy hauling work horse.

mike. the 6.5 engines have a better pump then the 6.2 engines do. they can deliver more fuel and at higher pressures. a stong well built pump on any diesel is it's life blood, but nowhere else is it more important then on 6.2/6.5 engines. all pump rebuilders are not created equal, when it comes to 6.2/6.5 engines. i have swaped pumps out on the engines that made them perform better/worse. having said this, another reason the 6.2 you speak of cooks, they are governed a little higher then the 6.5 engines were.. i have a 6.2 with a banks turbo, a well built pump, and a few other tidbits added, the stock clutch wont hold the power under full throttle.

Well losing to a V-6 Blazer isn't going to help me like the 6.5TD any better.
It seems to me its just a driver.
