4WD conversion

I've got a 1997 Ford F-350 Crew Cab, Long Bed Dually and I was wondering if it would be possible to convert it from 2WD to 4WD. I'm wondering if it is possible if I used the front axle out of a 1993 Ford F-350 4x4 Dually; If so, could I attach it at the factory mounting points or are the 2WD front frame rails different from the 4WD? Also, What would I have to do to put a transfer case in the truck; can I convert the existing automatic E4OD or would I have to get the 4x4 model?

i think, that you can swap everything from one truck ot the other. Thats what most people do, just get a donor truck, park it in the driveway next to the truck being donated to, and make a weekend of it. Although, if i remember right, the front axle on OBS trucks isnt very desirable and i think most people swap them for solid front axles instead of that twin Ibeam setup. But it will get you 4x4 either way. If you do decide to make it a 4x4, make sure you take pictures for us. I think the OBS crew cab dually 4x4s looks SWEET! but they are rare for some reason.

I'm just thinking that it may be easier and cheaper to sell yours and then find a 4x4 truck. That's just me. I'm a bit older and don't have that kind of time or energy. I got too many projects as it is.

Ford never made a dually 4x4 from 1992-1997, so if you found a 1993 dually it has been converted from one to another (either SRW to DRW or 4x2 to 4x4). Also, the F-350 will have the solid front axle that the F-250 owners always swap in place, so you're good there. I don't know about the frame rails, but if you've got the skills to swap in an axle then mounting the springs and such shouldn't be a problem for you. And unless you plan on running a divorced T case, you're going to need a 4x4 E4OD.
