2004..what do you think about high miles and new motor?

Alright, well as some of you have seen, my truck is getting sold to my buddy when he gets out of boot camp July 9th. I have been looking for a high mileage dually six speed. Well I cam across this truck and gave the guy a call. He did the swap him self, seems very knowledgeable about the truck. He has had it since 2005 and bought it from a buddy who is the original owner. The truck its self has 300,000 miles and the front end was rebuilt at 175,000. I am guessing it would need new ball joints again at least sometime soon if at all. For the motor, it was replaced with a 2006 motor that has 70,000 miles on it now. It has the stock transmission but new clutch. The computer in the truck is still 2004 but the engine is 2006. I just want to know what you guys think about the truck. I am going to watch the auction and see how high the bid gets if it does get above $10,000 at all.

Let me know what you think, good or bad! I am asking for your honest opinions.

Thanks!

-Chris

That is a tough call! Especially if you are not able to drive it. There are so many things you have to consider and things that could go wrong, or be wrong with the truck. Me personally, I would stay away from it. I'm not much of a mechanic, so those things may not be a big deal for you. Good luck, and let us know what you do.

I gotta go with Rob on this one. If you can't see it in person and test drive it, than I would stay away from it. Just out of curiosity, why do you want a high mileage truck?

I guess I forgot to add, I am not going to purchase the truck on ebay. If it sells, great, if not, I would go drive it and check it out before even thinking about buying it. That would be the only way.

For me there are too many wild cards.....it could end up being a good truck but I'd probably pass. There may be nothing wrong with it but the idea of having an 04 ECM and an 06 motor just wouldn't sit right with me. There were some little tweaks Dodge did during that time and I would worry something would raise it's ugly head after a while. That's just an personal opinion though.

Had someone drive the truck today and look around it for me. He said he would have no problem spending the money on the truck. He said it drives great, was a clean motor swap, and only got a few codes that haven't been cleared.

Here are the codes he got:

P2509

0147 0947 2647 3347 3947 A401

I am waiting to contact my buddy at a dealership on Monday to run the codes for me.
