6.5 L turbo diesel stanadyne injection pump?

i have a 1994 silverado with the 6.5 L turbodiesel VIN "S". i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to "turn up" the fuel. i really want to blow lots of black smoke to piss off the local cops and my stupid neighbors. i dont want a fast truck out of this truck because i am looking to get a 3rd gen 12 V dodge ram. but anyhow, if anyone knows how to turn up the fuel pump i would greatly appreciate your help. thank you

first off you know they can ticket you for excessive smoke. secondly, blowin' crazy smoke does nothing but give us a bad name. it would be different if the truck was 500+ hp an it did it on take off, but blowing smoke from a 100 hp truck is ridiculous. an third i'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a 3rd gen 12v, unless someone transplanted a 12v into a 3rd gen body. i think what your referring to is a 2nd gen 12v. anyways good luck.

You cant really blow tons of black smoke from a 6.5, well you can but not for long. Black smoke means high EGTs, its like taking a torch to your exhaust valves. You could spend a couple hundred on a water meth injection to help keep your EGTs down. Then you will have to send the injection pump off to have it set up to over fuel. There is a little plate on the side of the injection pump that you take off to get to the adjustment screw. These pumps dont give you much adjustment from stock so tons of smoke probably wont happen. Its a huge pain to adjust these because that screw moves inside the pump when the engine moves. I have turned one up before.

I dont think you can adjust the electronic pump. Only way to adjust the fuel is with a computer chip as far as I know. What was the year they went to a electrinic pump? I thought it was 96 but maybe it was 95.

All you have to do is pop the top on the intake off, there is 6 bolts right on tope on the engine.

The problem with a cummins and ford is the cost of parts. One injector costs as much as all 8 on a 6.5. Because the military had a contract for the 6.2 and 6.5 there is billions of parts laying around for them. Since most diesel parts are rebuilt that means tons of cheap parts. I can get a new injection pump for my 6.5 for under $400, a cummins or ford is around $1000 and that a cheap one.

ya i want to keep this truck but i would have to rebuild it from the ground up to make it an ok truck. everythings got 300,000 on it and i cant really trust it to go anywhere. i dont know what to do with it. i did not know about the military contract though. thanks for that information because the main reason i wanted to sell it was because i heard there are no parts for it but that is the complete opposite.

My rig has 250,000 on it and is almost like new. Mine is 2wd, the front end on a 4wd with that many miles would probably need work. My engine runs perfect, good oil pressure, good compression and fires right up. The engine has never been worked on other then a new injection pump. the last owner said he was told the transmission was replaced 1 year before he got it. After looking at it Id say thats BS. The transmission only has 2nd which happens with a electrical failer. Im changing the shift solenoids in it now.

300,000 miles of abuse may be a different story, a old guy owned my truck before the guy I got it from owned it. The old guy kept it in tip top shape.

thats good that you scored it from an old guy. the guy i bought mine from had it since 130,000 or somethin like that and now its at 283,000 and from what he said he only towed a 16 foot boat to the lake like once a month at most but other than that he just drove it to work and back. he kept it in the garage in the winter and i guess it starts rite up even when its col out. he told me that it burns 1 QT every 1,000 miles but i think he was just dumb and didnt know what he was talking about because i have run it 1,000 and there was almost no loss in oil. the only problem with mine is the bottom of the front fenders and the cab corners are starting to rust but its not that bad for 300,000. i guess the truck was built in arkansas and remained there until the guy who owned it before me bought it. so just about half its life was in a no salt environment but i dont know how the first owner treated it. i guess i got what i paid for. i only paid $1650 for it all together, tax, title, license plates, everything. i think its a good deal. i REALLY wish it was a crew cab 4X4 though. that would be sick.
