ISX egr valve

My buddy heard that you can disable the egr valve on an (05) ISX by leaving it on ''test mode'',also it suppose to make it run better . Question is, anybody know how to set it?....Thank's

From what I hear a person just turns the trucks key into the run position (not starting it), lets the electronics cycle through their normal deal and then after that is completed just unplug the EGR harness at the EGR valve. Make sure they tape up both ends of the plug. This is all done easier with the engine cold since you have to digging around the EGR valve.

I have heard that this can throw a check engine light but that is all i know.

What I did on my 05 Mercedes 6.4L 902.912 is have a 1/4" plate made using the gasket as a template. I took the EGR cooler off and used the plate instead. I left the valve wired in, zip-tied to something, otherwise hooked up to nothing. No error messages or de-rate. The computer therefore can't know the EGR is gone.
If the system has a EGR temperature sensor on the tubing from the cooler to the intake then you might get an error message/derate doing this.

I work in a dealers shop,I see people daily trying to get around the egr valve,have yet to see one actaully effective with no codes,if you block it off you with have a egr temp code,and have a derate

Derate wouldn't be so bad. Probably wouldn't even notice a difference on the POS 2008 ISX that we bought.

sounds to me like the 08 model has been cut back...the new ones are running out great with the egr cooler internally leaking being the only real down fall that it has.....good engine for now.......ive been cert. on cummins for about 27yrs and this one seems to be the easiest one yet to diagnose and be mechanic friendly with the right insite software to work on them with. just make sure that the ecm code verisions stay up to snuff and it should run out good for you.
as far as bypassing the egr valve...i also am a dealership foreman and i would say that anything that the ecm is seeing a response back for that is not seen will cause a fc in the system, the turbo or inlet temp will probly cause a real problem with it. its there for a reason and am not sure why you would want to block it off anyways. hmm

The reason is to reduce NOx, but in pre-07 models it also increases particulate pollution.
Why block it off? No more soot buildup on turbo compressor blades, longer oil life, longer engine life, better fuel economy, no more leaky cooler that can seriously damage the engine with glycol in the oil. And lower particulate emissions.
Admittedly, in some engines EGR also serves another role: in the Ford/Navistar 6.4, if the turbo wastegate malfunctions and the turbo overspeeds, the EGR valve opens to allow extra pressure to flow the opposite of normal direction to bleed pressure away.
But IMHO it's there for only the first reason in a pre-07 engine.
I know nothing specific about the ISX but I do have some expertise re the Mercedes 902.912.
