The parts man was right that is why they are plastic. They have to consider idiots that own them and try to start them while they are running.
And there are a lot of idiots out there who ruin it then complain that the company made a piece of junk that's expensive to repair/replace. Old cub cadets are still the best! Starter/generator via belt lasts forever.
