Tailgate cam w/vgate?

Ok im sure this is posted in the wrong area but im not sure where to put it. My new truck will be a 2011 F350 so thats why i put it here..did a search but didnt find anything.

Does anyone know if it is possible to install a V tailgate and retain the rearview camera?

I suppose I could weld a bracket and so forth but curious if anyone has done this before.

dont know what the connections are, on the tailgate, but it might
be easier to install a NEW <generic> camera, rather than tear the
original tailgate apart.

the cameras use a generic 2 wire RCA plug...very common stuff &
certainly there are 100s of cameras that can EASILY be plug & play'ed
or quickly adapted to a new gate or switched to a location other than the
factory tailgate.

a high quality surface mount color camera can be had for less than 100 bucks,
more realistically 60 bucks should provide satisfactory resolution !

I have no choice, Im transporting RV's and as I understand it I may not use my stock tailgate, and must use a V gate for 5th wheels. This might vary from company to company will update when i know more.

I got the camera option because I figured it would make loading trailers much easier.

again nothing stopping you from installing a DIFFERENT camera...lots of options and
if you cant do it yourself, most any GOOD car audio tech should be able to do this !

The camera is great for backing up empty but is really set up for a traditional hitch not a 5er. When tailgate is down you see nothing but the ground. There are several services found on this forum and others that allow two cameras to feed into the Ford dash unit, either one of which can be on 100% of the time, not ust in reverse- great for seeing what is going on behind the back of the towed trailer.

Yes you can take tailgate apart and mount it on a relatively flat surface of you V tailgate. Never done it, seems like a lot more work than buying new. Camera wires come out of the bottom of the tailgate and into a plug behind the bumper. Get wiring diagram for all wires coming out of the harness from Ford, this forum, or the folks you buy the camera from - they should know, and either map the aftermarket camera to a new plug you buy from Ford (so you can put the forf tailgate back on, or a splitter/plug you design.

I can't believe a V is a must have, but it guarantees that you won't ruin it because you forget to put it down pulling into or out from under 5er - been done many times before.

John - Do you have links to any products that tap into the Navigation screen? I want to install a camera on the back of the trailer and don't want to have a second screen inside the cabin.

best deal im seeing on the net for the ford handle w/ camera is about 400 bucks
'course youd have to figure out what to do w/ the tailgate that its still in (sold as a package).

theres a good write up on Ford-Trucks that some one has done, identifying all
the wires and the signals of each (btw the lines red/yellow/green distance lines
you see on the screen are part of the CAMERA - so unless you use a ford
camera you'll give up those distance markings....the lines may not mean anything
if you reposition the camera anyway)
