DPF Issues

We have a 2011 F550 6.7 with a refuse can toter lift . The DPF system seems like it requires regeneration in a very short time. This truck is used to move dumpsters around on campus and is does a lot of idling and PTO opperation around 1200rpm. It will go to 100% restriction and reduced power approxamatly once a day if you do not regen before 100%. Is this a normal time freame or do we have a problem that needs to be checked out?

Thanks
Alvin Langford

This just maybe normal for this particular truck. Most smoke is produced when you accelerate from a stop. Revving the engine with a light load, like the hydraulic pump produces smoke. Everything this truck is made to do to perform the job creates the most smoke. With that in mind the DPF will fill very fast. With little or no highway miles, the regen process is most likely always running. Thank you EPA

First thing I would do is not idle it once it is warm it does not cool off that fast sitting there. If it is for you comfort then you have to decide.

DPF

Drove the truck on interstate Hwy 40 miles, DPF says regen complete. Got off at exit drove approxamatily 1.5 miles to destination DPF says 100%. Drove back 40miles on interstate Hwy DPF down to 10% exit interstate, city driving around 5 miles 100% again. I think there is a problem with the sensors in system. If this is normal gas truck could be in our future.

Thanks for replies to this thread.

well with the highway miles you drove that sounds like excesive carbon or bad sensors, have your dealer check it out.
