2011 F-450 or F-350?!?

After all the great info finally came out today about the new trucks, I decided to call my insurance carrier (MetLife) and find out if they would be willing to insure the 2011 F-450 on a residential policy given the change in GVWR. It turns out that they WILL!!! So now I'm in a bit of a quandary...

I've already ordered a F-350 KR DRW, but I don't believe the build has started yet. Knowing that I can now insure the F-450, should I switch? It appears that the big difference between the two will be the wide-track front end, which is something I wanted to begin with. However I'm not sure what the real differences are between the F-350 and F-450...it certainly doesn't seem like much. For example, can I get the 3.73 in the F-450 or is the 4.10 standard? What are the other differences?!

HELP!

diff

wide track,3.73 vs 4.30 (f450 has 4.30's) you only get one gear choice now,
extra leaf spring Bigger brakes still, Badging and almost 5000.00 difference

BTW: they upped the f350 5th wheel towing to 21600 too.

If you want to get truck envy go buy a f650 with pickup bed. Those are Huge and sweet! lol

I just reviewed the spec sheet released yesterday and it looks like you've covered it bigbuck. So the only real advantage to me would be the bigger brakes and the wide track. The disadvantage would be the 4.30.

Does the wide track in the F-450 really make a dramatic difference over the F-350? I've never driven the F-350, so I don't have a point of reference. I'm pretty sure that the brake difference won't matter to me, but I was so impressed with the turning radius on the F-450...

wide track

wide track is 5 ft less in turning radius, than standard

Don't forget 5000.00 difference too

Either one with brakes will be better than 2010, because of exhaust brake, which helps dramatically

How huge of a difference is that? Doesn't seem like it's worth $5K!

You won't believe the difference the wide track axle makes. My '08 F-450 maneuvers like a short cab pickup. Much less turning radius compared to my '04 F-350 dually.

I really wish they hadn't neutered the F-450. I'm sure the '11's are going to be more than capable but all they've done is re-name the F-350 Tow Boss as the F-450.

What's the likelihood that Ford will release the F-350 with the wide track as an option in Job #2 or later like they did a few years back with the Tow Boss? I'd kick myself for ordering Job #1!

I appreciate all the feedback, and while I'd love to have the wide track, I just don't think it's worth the extra ~$5K. If it were a ~$500 option on the F-350, I would have gotten it without a moments thought. I also really don't want the 4.30 axle...just overkill for me.

I talked to my dealer this afternoon to ask him about switching my order to the F-450, and he basically told me that wasn't possible! I couldn't believe it! He told me he would likely get stuck with the truck I ordered, when we all know that they probably haven't actually built it yet! Am I losing it or is something seriously wrong here?

I'm planning to call again tomorrow and ask him again to switch it. If he still refuses, I'll probably cancel my order and go elsewhere. I can't believe that in this market, and at a sale of this price ($60K), the dealer is treating me this way...

If I'm off base, then somebody please tell me!

No VIN issued. In fact, my order was held up until this week because I had the mudflaps and bug guard included which are both late availability. My dealer resubmitted it this week without those items. He didn't have a VIN or ETA when I talked to him this afternoon.
