I was ready to pull the trigger on 2011. Wasn't expecting huge change in GM payload!?

I was almost ready to trade my 02 2500HD CC LB 4x4 8.1L and order a new 2011 F350 CC LB SRW 4x4 6.7 PSD to get maximum Camper and 5th wheel pin weight payload and more pulling power in a SRW. Now I'm dead in the water after reading the 2011 GM specs for the 3500HD CC LB 4x4 SRW 6.6L.

Do I have this right?

2011 3500HD CC LB SRW 4x4 w/ 6.6 Duramax now has GVWR of 11,600, curb weight 7516, and payload of 4085!!??

Check that out in the 2011 GM specs in their press release:

http://media.gm.com/content/media/us...vy_silveradoHD

In comparison:

2011 F350 CC LB SRW 4x4 with 6.7 PSD has GVWR of 11,300, curb weight 7812 and payload of 3400 or 3488. (3400 according to Ford the Ford esource book dated November)

So GM will have a 600 to 685 lb payload capacity on comparable base option trucks?? Was not expecting that!

And the 5th wheel towing capacity for GM is 16,800 while the Ford is 15,800 for the same 1 ton SRW configurations. GM will also have larger springs and larger brakes than Ford (14 vs 13).

Talk about leapfrogging payload for us SRW camper guys. So am I mis-interpreting something here? I love the looks and features of the new Ford, but I can't ignore the payload issue.

Set me straight on these capabilities and no bashing of brands needed.

Thanks much,
Kurt

The F-350 and the 3500 are both rated at 13000 gvwr. Ford F-350 has been rated at 13k for a while now.

Not true....

I am using the correct model year. The FORD figures are coming straight out of the 2011 Ford Super Duty esource book. They are not from 2010.

I will upload the attachment or post a url.

Dual Tandem,

The 13000 figures you provide I believe apply to F350 with DRW.

My post is about F350 SRW GVWR, which ranges from 11,200 to 11,500 for 2011, unless you request the 10000 lb GWVR option.

This is where I got the Ford GVWR, curb weight, and payload figures:

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...ckup_specs.pdf

Should be a reliable source if I pulled the right figures.
