03-07 5.9CR, lots of power stock, and you can get either the NV5600 or the G-56, both are outstanding units on stock powered trucks

pretty much flawless, and the truck wrapped around the drivetrain is much nicer than the older ones

As Aaron stated, the CR trucks all the way. Just be wary of some '05's as they had plastic intercooler boots. Sounds like you need a dually with the manual (NV5600 or G56) and you should be good to go.

CR = Common Rail, describing the fuel system supplying the injectors from the injection pump. The newer trucks (2003-up) have whats called HPCR or High Pressure Common Rail injection. These systems feed fuel to the injectors via a "common rail" at much higher pressures than that of a P-pumped (94-98 12Valve) or VP(1998 1/2-2002 24Valve) truck.

No problem. I learn new things every day about these trucks-all generations- and we are lucky that here at The Garage there are so many helpful people to answer all our questions. If you don't know, it never hurts to ask!

But in response to your original question, I too think that the CR trucks would be the way to go for what you are looking for.
