If it has a P7100 injection pump it is a truly great motor and if you leave it alone it will outlast the truck. Change the oil, and fuel filter regularly and flush the cooling system every five years. Do a valve set every 2 years.
play with it and it will let you down.

Keep track of the front wheel bearings, the time from malfunction to expensive failure is short. If it is an automatic it needs a transmission temperature gauge, a boost gauge is a good plan. Before doing anything to the fuel system you need a pyrometer.

One of the things to do is to cure the KDP and torque the case bolts on the timing cover and cam retainer.

Can anyone tell me where the computer is on a 96 2500 dodge diesel. Have a problem. My generator light, check engine light, wait to start light, water in fuel light flicker on and off and on. When this happens my tac jumps back in forth. Does not effect the way the truck runs. Just realy anoying. Thinking it may be loose connections. Anybody had this problem ?

Look under the plastic on the curb side top of the firewall. Symptoms sound like a corroded ground connection - never had to look it up. One of the 'tuneup' things to do is to service all of the grounds with a Dremel, SS brush and grease or anti-seize. Make all parts shinny and protect from corrosion.
