Help : Skid plate

I would go off road like once a month and the path that I take is not that rocky. Fast forward after the trip and noticed that transmission etc. is worn off. The advice I got is to get a skid plate. Problem is would installing it would make it too HOT and might overheat?

Searched now that the CHRYSLER was recalled because the transmission was too hot. Maybe they already fixed this problem and I'm not gonna be affected. Crossing fingers!
