Lots of our trucks have cracked dashes...both my 99 and 01 have cracks. They aren't too bad yet, but I will be replacing the dash in the 01 sometime soon.

Lots of people (including me) believe products like armour-all help dry out the plastic, leading to cracking. Also living in a hot climate won't help either.

i dont know if its true or not, nut i was told the dash plastic used on the trucks made in canada where thicker and better to deal with the extreme cold, like i said i dont know if thats true or not but my paint has gone to complete hell it the last 2 years since i moved back to florida but my dash still looks good, i also have a good friend that bought his truck from a guy that brought it down from canada and it has been in south florida since 97 and the dash is still in good shape

Mine cracked last year just out of the blue......I came out one morning and the crack was there. So I drilled a small hole at the end of the crack. I then mixed up some JB weld and forced the crack apart and put the JB weld on the crack and put I back together. I wiped up the excess and let it dry.....it's almost the same gray color and the crack hasn't gotten any bigger.

Mine has a couple really SMALL cracks in it, and each one I have noticed, I put super glue on, and they have all stopped dead. not one is more than 0.5 inch. So that seems to have curbed the problem for now at least...

My truck wants to be a semi when it grows up...

Is there any product out there to help prevent dash cracks? Something that would put moisture or something into the plastic?

If you use somthing like armourall , you have to use it REGULARLY !! , if not is will dry out and crack. Better not to use it , than only once in a while. An Old upholsterer told me this a long time ago. True with vinyl seats and so on.
