hitches

well I have decided to install a gooseneck hitch in my 07. I have heard that the B&W turnover is the best. So I called a hitch place to price one and they quote me a price of 399 plus tax but go on to say that they have had the B&W turnover hitch to fail and say that the hidden hitch is alot stronger. So I ask them about a price and they came back with 599 plus tax. They said that the B&W hitch when loaded with alot of tongue weight sometimes pushes the ball down through the hitch and that the cross pieces of the hitch bends as B&W isn't strong enough. The question is has anybody heard of this problem or are they just blowing smoke in order to sell a more expensive hitch? Hopefully I hear from some of you soon as I want to buy a hitch tomorrow. By the way I am planning on getting a 20 plus 5 gooseneck mainly to haul firewood and my farm equipment locally. Usally the most weight would be approx. 12,000 lbs. on the trailer. Thanks.

B&W are some of the best hitches built, the hitch people are trying to screw you and make more money, every truck that has been in my family has always had a B&W gooseneck hitch in it. never once had any issues with it and our 04 and my 96 have been way way way over loaded with trailers and never had a issue, i used to pull a 450G bulldozer and a kubota tractor on a 41' flatbed almost everyday and never once did the hitch bend or crack or move

I have had 5-6 B&W Hitches, not a single problem. I typically haul much more weight than you have quoted doing. You won't be sorry with the B & W.

The B&W has served me well in many pickups, never a problem. If I remember right the B&W is rated to 30 or 35k pounds, so you shouldn't have a problem. I really prefer the looks and the way the b&w functions to any other hide-a-way style ball.

thanks for the info. the other question I have is on the B&W hitch there is a release handle that sticks out of the bed on the drivers side rear fender. The question is could this interfere with putting on wider tires and since I live in Ohio where there is a lot of salt used in the winter does this handle ever sieze up from corrision? Sorry about the spelling.

I have a B&W T/O on Chum. She came from MN and has 260K on her. The release is tucked up very close to the frame and should not be in your way and it seems to wear well.
