Exclamation What should i buy???

hello everyone,
im new to the dodge forum but if you quickly jump to the 6.5 Turbo Diesel chevy forum you'll see me. (dont hate me cause im a chevy boy!! )

anyhow, quick question for all of you.
so im thinking about buying a cummins so i can roll that coal!!! ( but im not too sure what im looking for.

im not new to cars but im fairly new to trucks and i have no idea whats bad and whats good (parts-wise). i want a NICE truck that i can just tote around town to and from work, maybe go to the strip every once in a while, and occasionaly eat up some rice (gotta stay healthy!! stupid ricers).
so i guess my real question to all of you is if you can just give me your input on what you think i should look for and advise me on anything that fails too quickly or breaks easily etc... things i should look out for. you know, the usual.

i am really looking for a 96-98? (24 valve i think lol) but i would take a 12 valve. or something like an 07 or 08. something like that. i really want a 6 speed too but most people advise against that.

thanks for you time and input. i REALLY appreciate it. i dont want to waste my hard earned money on something i dont want. (hard thing to say about a cummins. dont think i will be dissapointed if i get one. )

96-98 are all 12V and all gonna be 5spds......98.5-.02 wil be the 24V and the 6spd option.

I cannot speak on the swap itsself but just the parts,
94-96 47rh mechanically actuated tranny in autos
96-98? 47re electrical version of 47rh
I have a built auto and love it!

Both weak limks that need to be addressed before power mods.
KDP -dowel pin in timing gear that is prone to falling out. $35 tab kit

1994-1998.5 12v
1998.5-2002 24v

For simplisity of the swap I would stick to a 12v for less wiring. My $0.02

There were a few early 235 hp standard output 24v trucks that had a 6spd. (Others had a NV4500 5 spd like my SO does.) But, most 6 spds were behind the 245hp high output engines. IIRC, the early ones had a smaller input shaft as well. They had teething problems with the early ones, so they stopped production of the NV5600 for a while in there somewhere.
