Getrag Oil Level

The plate beside the level plug (passenger side) has six cap screws holding it on, ... I just determined that two of them are just over an inch above the filler plug. When I installed my rebuilt Getrag I filled 5 liters in the shifter hole, installed the shifter and happily motored off (three years ago!) Lately I've been concerned whether the extra liter is still there. No major leaks, but after three years ..... I pulled the level plug and caught only about half a cup of oil!... . Well I dumped the extra liter thru one of the capscrew holes and found the new level about 1/2" below the hole, .... problem solved!! ....

Agreed, .... it's gonna happen next summer now that I have an accurate method. I'm away from my main tools, eg suction gun, drain tank etc. But yes, three years is too long for any auto fluid to stay unchanged. Antifreeze and brake fluid also on the list, ...
