Smile 98 Dodge 1500 may get a 4BT

I have a 1998 Dodge 1500 SWB with automatic. When the 318 gas engine quits me, I was thinking about putting in a cummins 4BT with auto. Has any one done this? What kind of fuel milage do you get? Most of all, was it worth the trouble installing it?
Thanks for advice,
