Light Bar under Rear tailgate?

Anyone put an LED light bar under their rear Tailgate? I've seen other Trucks with them and I'd like to add one. My question is this, What do you do about the spare tire hole that you use to lower the tire from under the truck? Does the light bar just cover it up and your screwed if you get a flat? I've seen Fords and Chevy's with the light bar curious what Dodge owners do?

I've got an 08 Diesel Mega Cab, but I'm sure the set up is the same for all Dodge Trucks.

Thanks for anyone who has any idea's!

Brent

I put the light bar on my kinda low and it covers most of the hole to lower your spare tire. The light bar itself is pretty flexible and i can still get my tool in to lower the tire no problem. Havent had to yet but that was one of the first things i checked. as you can see in the picture there is some room to raise it up a little bit if you wanted too

Hope this helps

Bechapman1979,

Thanks for the pic, I wondered how flexible they would be. I'm not sure if I have a dibit like yours in the molding but I'll be sure to check at lunch today!

Thanks for the response and the extra mile with the pic!! Have a good weekend

You have the molding Brent, every truck has it. I have the Recon bar on my truck, looks awesome with the LED taillights and 3rd brakelight.

I forgot why I had it hung low in the first place. If you mount it too high the mounting screw will rub the paint every time you open or close the tailgate and end up with a rub spot. i didn't notice right away and it ate into it pretty good as you can see. so make sure it doesn't rub and hang it as low as you can to make sure you don't end up with a chunk of paint missing from your tailgate like mine. Of course i got many chunks missing and dents from misfires of heavy limestone being hand loaded/tossed in the bed.

Good luck and let us know when it is done

Yep your right, it is molded. I just didn't remember that. Thanks for the pointer in regards to rubbing. I'll probably use 3m tape so I don't have to drill holes. We'll see....Thanks I'm also looking for the side amber lights that go under the doors on the rocker pannel so when I finally get them ordered and all done up I'll be sure to post...
Thanks again,

I pulled the molding off of mine and put the bar right over the hole. I dont have a spare tire though (since the truck didnt come with one) . The recon lights come with 3M adhesive and screw holes as a secondary means for mounting.
