Cool looking to buy a new truck need advice, mpg questions

I am looking to buy a truck to pull a 30ft travel trailer. I am looking for anything between 95-05. Must be a crew cab and preferably an automatic(it will also serve as a spare vehicle and my wife can't drive stick... tried to teach her once but stopped while I still had hair left). Brand doesn't really matter but dependability does. I like the looks of the early 2000 Ford F250's and Dodge rams. I will probably only use it to pull the trailer and drive it now and them just to keep it up.(My current truck I've had for about 5 years and only put 15k mile on it). What should I look for as far as common problems and what are you guys getting for fuel economy, daily and while towing, with your trucks? Thanks in advance to everyone who responds.

Can't go wrong with either of the big 3 and each of them has their own ups and downs. I only have experience with my Dodge, and in 128k I have replaced:

-ball joints
-hub bearings
-power steering pump
-1 injector
-fuel pump (went with FASS)
-1 set of front pads (love that PacBrake!)
-3 sets of tires

I average about 500 miles per tank mixed driving adding 1/2 bottle of PowerService at each fillup. It seems as though the truck is running better and better everyday the more miles it gets.
It has had a programmer/downloader on it since 5k and has had the mods in my sig for awhile with no major issues.

i think most people would tell you to get a dodge if mpg matters alot. 6cylinder=less fuel.
all three will suprise you what kind of good mileage you get with a tunner. the cummins just does better.
