Axle seals and Hubs leaking

My axle seals and hubs are leaking, they have that wonderful grease oil ring going on at the seal. I'm very meticulous putting things back together and this just puzzles me. Was wondering if you guys had an idea or a fix to this, thanks guys.

There is a product called a 'seal saver', it is a sleeve that covers a rough sealing surface, another way is to make a shim that offsets the seal so it does not run in the wear grove on the houseing.

Not setting the seal in plane will wear them rapidly and denting the metal will often cause a leak.

For pulling a seal the easy way is to remove all but the outer nut that you thread on 2-3 threads and then use the hub like a slide hammer to pull the seal - the inner bearing and seal are left hanging on the spindle with no damage so you can wash them and look for the cause of a leak - often a nick in the seal lip but sometimes the plastic is hard and cracked. Dirt at the seal lip is most common and it will wear a place on the spindle that will wear the seal rapidly, hence the seal saver.

Garage
Check/clean the axle vent first, and go from there.

Thanks man I'll have to look into that product and find some. Its kind of annoying when you take it all apart and think you've fixed it just to find it a couple of weeks later leaking again.

bmoeller is right on the air vent that holds the brake tee on the housing. Best is running a vent hose up the firewall, it is worth replacing if it is a 2wd with no hose and just tucking the end in the frame as the factory does.

A plugged vent will leak when the rear end warms up but not usually on short hops around town, damaged seal surfaces are pretty much time/miles related.
