cooling the air

whats the difference between aftercooled & intercooled?.. can you take early noncooled engines and make them after/intercooled

You can make non-cooled engines intercooled.
It's actually better for the engine.

Intercooled is air to air, aftercooled is air to water. Alot of the older 855 Cummin's motors were aftercooled, I saw a military aftercooler for a 5.9 on ebay awhile back, but they are pretty rare. Adding an intercooler wouldn't be too difficult if you could aquire all of the hardware.:smoke: :smoke:

Intercooling is usually a better option for a daily driven pickup, aftercoolers are used on alot of ag equipment were there is not enough air ie: slow speeds and no airflow through engine bay.

Yeah I have had that thought before, but I believe that there are instances that the aftercooler would be less affective than the intercooler. But cool nonetheless.
