Getrag G360 Overfill

I have seen on quite a few forums that individuals say to overfill the Getrag 5 speed an extra quart.

Has anyone done this and had success? And is it even a good idea?

I overfilled mine a half quart and am now wondering why it may have blown fluid out the rear of the transmission where it mates to the housing between the trans and transfer case.

Any help, info, or insight is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Engineers design a product to work with a certain amount of a certain fluid, and people think they know better, they want to add different fluids and different amounts.
They act like they are geniuses, when really they know nothing. I can understand upgrading the quality of oil synthetic over mineral, but changing the type and quantity is not a good idea. Even upgrading to synthetics you have to know the internal and external seals will handle it.
Just a thought!

I do cheat a little bit so the oil runs out when you check the level, just so you can see if it is contaminated. if you fill it to a little over when cold, when you check it warm it will run out.

I didn't think that overfilling just half a quart would be much of a problem, everything I had seen about filling it up said an extra quart which seems pretty crazy to me.

A thought that was passed on to me was that with all the pressure built up inside the transmission was that the fluid needed to go somewhere so it exited where it could.

I didn't think that it would have blown out the back of the transmission the way it did.
