VE pump fuel screw

on my 1992 d250 the fuel screw would go in untill i have no threads showing if i wanted to.
i have two other motors with VE pumps, one in my motorhome and one in another dodge, , after removing the crimped thread cover, all i can get out of the fuel screw is 1 turn before it stops, leaving between 1/4" and 3/8" of threads visible....
do other 1st gen owners encounter the same issues...
i just replaced the fuel pin and installed a 3200rpm spring...would that have anything to do with it..? did i install something wrong.. despite the fact that these are not my first ones..?
any info...
