Bought another 93 today... One Issue???

Well I bought a one owner 93 dually ext. cab 4x4 5spd with 169,000 miles on it today.

The truck nasty but in good condition other than needing a paint job but I figured for $2650 I could not pass it up.

The only real problem it has is the tranny has no 4th gear and third gear sounds like it is grinding when you push the throttle hard.

4th gear is not even there at all. If you try to find it there is no hole for it and the shifter will just go over to 2nd or reverse.

I ahev had no experiance with one of these dodge trannys so I don't have a clue what would be causing this. Does anyone have any idea what the issue may be??

Thanks,
Darrell

Wow, what a steal! pull the getrag and rebuild the thing. I know very little about the G-trag but sounds like there is some serious issues inside that case. For the money I'd just get it rebuilt or order a remaned and swap it.

He has an automatic if you read his sig. But on a side note, the getrag is actually a very good tranny. I havent had an issue with mine, just like 1000 others who will agree.

The one in the sig is an auto but the thread is "I bought another 93 today". He stated that it's a 5spd. But I do agree when driven properly the getrag is better than the 5thgear nut issue.

Yeah the new one I just bought is a 5 spd. I am going to pull it next week and have a buddy tear it down and then we will go from there.

The 3-4 syncro is broken, probably a mainshaft and 3-4 syncro and a full set of bearings to repair.

There is metal drifting in the trans oil so check the gear faces very close for pinning of the pieces on the surface, they scrape with little problem but cause lots of wear if left.

Darrell, the main problem I see is that you own a psd.
But that can easily be rectified.

Biggest killer of the the Getrag is LUGGING it. (Too high a gear for the forward speed) Keep the engine at or near its optimum RPM and it'll last darn near forever. Learned that lesson the hard way...
