Transmission and Transfer Case

What is the type of 5speed transmission in the 1ton Diesels, also what type of Transfer case.

Anyway to prevent 3rd gear from shaking the hell out of the gear shifter?

Anyone ever experience the transfer case shift lever feeling kind of loose but still perfectly engaged?

Your trans is a getrag 360 model. The transfer case is a new process 205.

Have you checked the u-joints??

My truck wears a set out in about 1.5 years of use. With large amounts of grease in them the needle bearings still wear groves in the u-joint cross piece.

I have a friend with a W350 stick shift. His does the same on u-joint life. We both use spicer u-joints.

Another thing to look at is the rubber bushings used in the rear trans mount. If they colapse from to much oil on them. It will cause the shift lever to move quite a bit. Its the same with engine mounts also.

Older Dodges are not noted for quality shifters on the transfer cases.

Only u-joints I've replaced so far are the rear drive-lines, but those were due to me taking it through water and mud a few times. If those are the ones you are talking about.

I'll have to check out those mounts.

Does your truck have the 6" lift blocks between the rear axle and the springs???

I believe it does, I'm miles from it so I can't go out and look at it. The kit that was installed materials list has cast iron blocks.

Dodge had a TSB for the stock trucks with the 6" lift blocks in them. That TSB said to lower the carrier bearing down 1/2" with a spacer. If the vibration didn't go completely away them to install angle shims between the spring packs and the block to correct pinion angle.

Here is a link to the TSB.

Hmm, I'll have to look into that. Those shims are already on there. You wouldnt happen to know where I could find the weight of the tansmission and transfer case?

Transfer case most likely is around 140 lbs. The trans is over 200 lbs.
