Use the Calculate Rear End Gear Ratio. you need to know your tire diameter, speed, and RPM's and that'll tell you what gears you have

If it hasn't been removed. The ratio tag would be mounted at the 11:00 position when looking at the cover.

There might be a decal under the hood with the factory options listed on it.

If you have a stick shift truck the factory had 3:54's and 4:11's as ratio's. If it is an auto truck then it should be 3:08's.

If you can't find any tags or a build sticker take off your diff cover, count the teeth on your Ring gear and divide by the number of teeth on your Pinion gear.

It is stamped on the ring gear. It will look like this XX-XX no need to waste time counting gear teeth if you have the cover off. A 4:10 gear would be stamped 10-41.

Well my old 1992 Cummins D-250 had 3:55s factory and it had the 518 auto.
