!st gen Vs. 2nd Gen

Hey guys now that I have to looks for a new truck I am stuck between a 1st and 2nd ge. I want a 1st because insurance will be cheap but I am not sure if it will keep up power and speed wise. I am currently looking at a very nice 93 350 duely. Is a good price and a great truck but if it is going to be a dog compared to a 2nd gen I realy don't want it. i want a truck that will do 2 pulls a year and that I still can race some of the ricers around town and a few muscle car friends. Am I better off with a second gen or should I stick with this truck?
Here a look at it:

That 1st gen is Dead Sexy.. I love thm . I have seen a 1st gen bust 650+hp on a stock pump, so I'd say they can keep up. A friend of mine has one with a few pump tweaks, A diffrent turbo exhaust housing and injectors, and it will fly.

You can get 300-400hp pretty easily out of a VE44, but you will need injectors for the upside of 340hp. I think the highest hp out of a stock VE44 was 588hp, with twins and water meth injection by Stomp. Brian Block has dynoed 670+hp with a KTA head pump and twins. There is a thread in the Tech Articles, called VE Pump Tuning, read it. There is alot more to these trucks than just turning the fuel screw in 2 turns. If you need some help let me know, by the way, where are you from?:smoke: :smoke:

I just got some new info on this truck. The owner put in a new jasper trans at 144000. Then it had a few problems 67k later. So they put in another trans that has only a few miles on it. This is very good. He said that he just doesn't need a truck this big. He only hauls 1-2 four wheelers ever once in a while and he wants something smaller. I think I could throw on some stacks, cut up the air box and mabe some injectors and of course the FREE tweeks and I think I could run the truck prety fast. I am not looking To spend Thousands but just a few hundred on mods. It will be a daily driver and then a work truck so I think it fits in just right, plus the price is very good!

Remember that the 1st Gen's have a 518 transmission, in which there is no lockup in overdrive. This will lack in the performance aspect over say a 94-98 which would have the 618. In my opinion the best transmissions were in the 94-95 autos 47RH, I think they handle the higher line pressures better than the later 96-03 47RE. But they will hold horsepower, so good luck.:smoke: :smoke:

if you cut up air box make sure your holes are where rain cannot seep in where hood closes and get filter wet. thats what i done to mine but did not take rain into account but no probs so far:93C_peelo
