I want to buy a First Gen

I have been look ing for a 1993 3/4 ton truck and wanted to get some info. Are there any weak links in this year(tranny, rear end,etc...). I want to hot rod it a litte but im not sure whice parts to go with.(brand & spec). I'd like around 300 rwhp or more. Oh and what about the Banks turbo, is it any good or would I be better of with with a HX35?

Good thing with the first gen is that there are a bunch of "Free" mods you can do...ie Pump tweeks, fuel screw ect. Good place to start. The 93's are prety stuot, steering wobble will give you some trouble and as with all dodge autos they wount take much pounding. Keep the HX-35 switch the stock 21cm turbo housing for the 16cm, night and day difference. Good luck and feel welcome to ask any questions.

well i just baught a 1990 and i have always driven fords so i am learning to, but i love mine so far, i have been running the heck out of it and geting over 18mpg. From what i have heard is the tranny is the weakest link, we will see how much it can take before it goes boom lol

Actually, the stock turbo is likely a WH1C, and is almost identical to an HX35. The "Banks turbo" is just their 14cm exhaust housing on your stock turbo. As said before, just swap out to a 16cm & it'll be just fine. If you want more than that on a budget, HTT sells an upgrade kit that uses an HX40 compressor side parts on your original turbo.

Actually the stock tranny is not that weak. My 89 runs low 13's with 130,000 miles and 312 horsepower(stupid Dynojet dyno) and I launch at 10psi, all that is on the stock auto:Thumbup:

Trev1981, put on an HX 35. get a 3200 gov spring, Piers fuel pin, turn up the pump, and get POD's, and you'll get just over 300hp.
