5 or 6 speed

im looking at a few trucks with the 24v motor. some have the 5 and some have the 6. is there a specific year that they switched or is it an option. i would think the 6 is better but im not sure.

The 6spd was mainly behind the 245hp HO engine. The exception would be a few early '99 trucks and the input shaft was also smaller on those.

If you want to mod the engine any, the 5spd trucks give the best results from fueling boxes.

Problem with all of the NVG drivetrain parts, is that the business has closed up shop. Hard to find most parts for a complete rebuilt.

Have the 5spd myself, and it has performed well for me. I do like the ratios on my Getrag in the '92 better, though.

Sold- '99 3500 Q/C, SO CTD, 4x4, 5spd.

Traded off- '97 3500 C/C, 4x4, CTD

'92 W250, LE, CC, CTD w/ tweaked pump (SOLD)

so if im reading this right the 6 spd probably has a stronger engine but the 5 spd will do better with a modified engine? which trans is stronger?

correction

6spd is a good clutch and stock engine will last longer than the engine.
