ABS light

My abs and brake light have been on for about three years now and I have given up on the lights burning out. After reading some posts online I thought that I must need an rear speed sensor but after changing it out with a new one the lights are still on. Any ideas on what else to check or replace would be helpful, ow yea the wierd thing is that I have read the codes and according to the code reader it is code free but the lights are on so what gives.

I'm not up to date on ABS, but I've been told that there is some kind of "motor" that controls the pulsing for the antilock feature. I've also been told that it isn't inexpensive to replace them.
Wish I could help, but that's all I'm aware of.

Well, most simple code readers will not read abs codes. So even if codes are present in the ABS system, your basic system won't tell you that there are any or what they are.

Since you replaced the rear wheel speed sensor, we can rule that out, but there are still a few other things that it may be.

Front wheel sensors, ABS control module, or damaged tone rings. If you can get it onto something that reads or communicates with the ABS system. You should be able to better narrow down where your problem stems from.

On Edit: Alldata list procedures, and parts for four wheel ABS as well as rear wheel ABS. I know the newer trucks are 4wheel ABS, but I am not sure if these older trucks are. If there aren't front wheel ABS sensors which will be mounted on the hubs, then that simplifies it to either the control module or the tone ring.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information guys. I think that I need to hook it up to a better code reader than the superchips one that I have. And I know that it does have front sensors on the hubs since I recently did a front brake job. If all else fails I will just look at the lights for a few more years, because I know that I am not replacing the tone ring and the control module sounds expensive.

Yeah, the tone ring would be a huge pain. According to the snap on Solus that I scan my truck with I need a new tone ring in the rear. And since these diffs have to be set up in the truck, I really don't want to mess with doing that over a tone ring. And, mine has been out for a couple years now too. And I don't feel that I have ever needed my ABS, I have never locked up my brakes, just isn't in the way I drive.

Oh, a good mod for fixing MIL's is a sticker placed over them. Not the proper fix, but it gets the job done.

Thanks for the idea about the sticker, that wasn't what I originally intended to do but I agree that the tone ring would be to much trouble to fool with. Ow well the lights have been on for over 4 years so I dont even really notice anymore. 130,000 and still going strong.
