CEL and fuel pump timing gear?

my friends truck threw a CEL, when he checked it it said fuel pump timing gear. i have never heard of that before. what does that mean?

He said it runs normal but sometimes it doesn't have power like it doesn't have fuel.

Did he tell you a Pcode? Their are fuel injection timing error codes, p0216, p01690 would be the most likely. Even when running my pump gear mechanically advanced, p1690 was the only code I threw. Did he recently pull the pump gear for any reason? If he damaged the keyway during re-install, that could have caused the code.

no, nothing has been pulled apart. i think its bone stock. if its not it has very little done to it. not many miles on it either.

he said he thinks he remembers see P216, so maybe he say P2016. what would that mean?

Internal Injection pump timing failure. The timing solenoid gets worn out, and the pump can no longer reach full advance. Its hard to say how long it will last with that code present before giving up the ghost.

You need to replace the whole VP44 injection pump. I did mine about 6 months after I got that code. I had to save some money because they are not cheap. I wnet with bluechip because he has the best knowledge imo from what I found out from others around my area who delt with him. He shipps them all over the country. I haven't had a problem with my truck since. I just mad sure u put a FASS pump on my truck before I replaced it.
