Are you sure its the block and not the head or the head gasket? Is the truck a 53 block? If so then chances of a cracked block are not out of the question.

The 53 block generally cracked near the back on the passenger side. Should be lower on the block & run lengthwise... should see evidence of the leak.

I believe you can get it "stitched" but I believe all option are $$$...

Look on your crank case vent cover. Are the first two digits 53? Chances are; they are not. Either way, a blown head gasket is more likely the case. Mine was blown and I had no signs. I noticed when I was removing the head bolts to put in studs.

What did your oil look like? Gray and slimy or milky and thick? I prefer to start with the least expensive causes and work from there.

Cracked blocks aren't out of the question, I have also seen 55 blocks crack as well as the 53. So... Like said above, look at the system a little closer and see what you find. If you are sure the block is cracked, I wouldn't mess with having it stitched. Just buy a new block, a longblock, or a used engine and go from there.
