I was going to try the same thing, everyone I talked to says sensors wont work with our ecm's. And the 03 and newer wont work with pcm.

It wouldn't be any different than doing a PSD to Cummins conversion. But it would be easier to just fix the 24v or put in a replacement 24v from a donor. Could it be done, Yes. would it be cost effective? prolly not.

yeah i started looking around and i think just rebuilding mine and doing a hi-performance rebuild is about the same as a stock CR implant. one thing i was wondering can i use the 17.2:1 pistons from the HO 2001 cummins in the SO motor with the SO pump and computer? i have 100hp injectors was thinkin it would be a little bit of an upgrade. im gonna do a cam and head studs fire ring the head the whole thing.

The lower compression is a better way to go if you are going to do any kind of performance upgrade. If you do do the CR swap, you will need a CR ECM. I have a complete set up, that I was thinking of throwing in mine, including AAM axles with the larger ring gears and disc brakes as well. Its kind of a ***** with smog out here, and having to go to a ref. even to drop in a newer engine, but... It would be pretty cool. I've got a line on a whole truck minus the trans and transfercase if you're interested, I doubt I will get around to it soon, and can always find another one.

I was wondering how you can have all that damage to the motor and figure the turbo is OK. I would really check the turbine for damage.

I have a 12v sitting in my garage at home that lost the #6 valve and did some huge damage. Looked like world war III in there. But the turbo that was on it is fine. Not that that always happens, but definitely isn't unheard of.
