Tranny fluid/filter

Made it through about 5 pages in a search and found nothing straight forward for what I'm looking to know.

Any brand of trans filter better than another?

And if you dont know the fluid type should you just go off what the manual recommends or does it hurt to start adding any brand of atf or adding synthetic to whats there?

Thanks guys.

I like the old style filter better than the new plastic ones they run. aka the 727 style.

the auto already has synthetic atf+4 in it. I run Amsoil myself it holds up well have abused my trans for years.

The old style open filters flow better but aren't as efficient. Always a trade-off. If you are really worried about getting the best flow and filtration use an open filter in the pan and install an external bypass filter to get the small stuff.
