oil pressure dropping out and slow starting problems

OK guys, I have a 2001 5.9 cummins sport. I have a couple issues going on like the heading mentions. First off and most important. I noticed the last couple days that the oil pressure had been falling off after I had been driving the truck for a while but not below the safe zone. Yesterday, on the way home, I was pulling in the driveway and the gauge went to zero. I immediately shut the truck off. No knocking or weird noise coming from the motor. I started the truck back up and it was on the minimal level so I shut it back off.

Starting Issue: After the truck sits for several hours the truck cranks and cranks then finally starts. It runs strong and does not starve for fuel at all.
I checked the fuel pressure with a manuel gauge at the injection pump and it was reading 22 psi and dropped to around 18 psi under load. The truck starts normal if regular driving occurs throughout the day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I tried another oil sensor today and this didn't help. Oil level is showing full and it is clean as new. I am stuck and don't know where to go from here. I need help! I'm afraid to drive it.

I am just not sure of what may cause that. I would try changing the oil and filter. The filter has a bypass that can open when the oil flow is restricted and may not be working correctly. But I would not think so. The oil pump may have some kind of issue, so it could be time to pull the oil pan. Anyone else with a guess?

guessing eh?
clogged pickup tube screen
does the sensor have a screen, or cloggable port?
you need to determine if pressure is actually going low or it's the gauge
install manual gauge or look in valve cover hole?
never tried that

you need to determine if it's fuel starved or flooded
not sure how to do that
