Allison Transmission MT 653

Now this a thread I'm making were I practically invite someone to "flame"
my statements.

But I don't understand how, why..........................Someone does not put this Transmission behind there Cummins. The hardware is all there! No special adapters to make to bolt it up to the ISB. I just don't understand why everyone isn't doing this. I have a MT 653 that is waiting for me to gain some money. I don't understand why Dodge/Cummins owners aren't looking in to this. The transmission used don't have a bad price tag. Someone just please tell me why this isn't done more before I super glue one onto my Cummins.

I personally think it would be a wiring and computer nightmare to make it all work. Maybe I am all wet, but I would think it would take lots of time.

I dont think so.....we have MT653's in our '87 Terra-Gator....there is no electronics for them. It would be the ultimate setup for pulling, converter lockup in 2nd....They are slow shifting though...need a little improvement if you were wanting to go fast. Mounting the transfer case for 4x4 would be the biggest problem prolly.

I am talking about the truck, not the tranny.

Ya the lack of eletronics is the reason why I think it'd work so good.

As for the truck electronics. I know I would not have Speedo, or cruise control. I think I would have the Check engine light on the whole time too, the linkage and mounting would be wierd but diffently possible. Drive shaft modications need to be done. But nothing is saying it's impossible yet...........
That's really what I'm looking at, something that says it's impossible then
I'd have to lift the truck to fit it however.

I don't like doing the impossible

but,

If it can be done, I'm doing it.

I also don't have 4WD, making the install alittle easier.

I would also be concerned with it putting the truck into limp mode constantly.

Ya I'm open to that being possible, but I don't know if the PCM would do that considering I think it goes into Limp - IN mode when something in the engine is reading goofy. I don't think it would thoough, I don't know for sure though.
