Single turbo setups

I'm thinking about getting a larger single turbo setup. For details on what I have look in my sig. I'm going to get the hot code for my edge, and a new clutch, but I'm mainly looking into help for injectors and a turbo. I was thinking about the Mach 2's and the 62/14 high tech turbo, but I'm a little worried about the spool up of this setup. The truck will be used for towing and I really don't want to have to pull the head for O-rings. Thanks guys.

i am running 280hp inj,htt pro-street 66/14,drag comp, hrvp-44 and pulled 28,000lbs gross on a trip from nj to al this past weekend. i got 14.9mpg at 75 to 80mph. egt's got to 1400degs on one hill but it was a 7% grade for 6 miles. boost was 34psi on that pull but it will hit 48psi if i hit hard.i still came over to top at 73mph.

That sounds like a really good combo that you are thinking of running actually. Spool up shouldn't be bad at all, the 62/14 is often refered to as a super stock for the fact that it is a relatively small turbo, but it should be able to handle mach 2's with a hot juice no problem. Towing may get a touch warm, but you can turn the box down and be perfectly fine. It sounds like you've done some homework on the subject already. As far as pulling the head to o-ring it. You won't have to worry about that with mach 2's and a small single like that. We ran a truck with an edge drag comp HRVP 44, Mach 4's and an hx40 later switched to a bell USB turbo and that constantly pushed 55psi boost without having a problem, and that motor wasn't even studded. You'll be fine.

Yeah i've looked into it quite a bit but still have some concerns, you say that the turbo is a small one but how small is it compared to a hx-35. I'm trying to get 400 hp out of it and still be able to tow anything I want and I really hate high egt's, mine makes 325 right now but the highest egt's ive seen is 1220.

You should be able to tow fine with that turbo, it is more than capable of supporting 400hp. It is a touch bigger than an HX35 and on your truck you have an HY35 which has an even smaller exhaust housing. A 14cm exhaust housing will help keep it plenty cool on the top end and you are able to supply more air up top as well with this turbo Vs. the hx or hy. This turbo would be a bit laggy on a stock truck but even with just the juice it would be drivable and do fine towing. So the juice with injectors won't be an issue for it. Also you don't want to be running around on your highest levels all the time anyways, run bigger injectors and keep your box turned down (Its easier on the pump).

I think with Mach 2's and this turbo you should be perfectly happy. I don't think that your EGT's will be much above 1300-1400 with the injectors and your box set on kill. With your box on a more towing friendly setting you will be able to keep it under 1200 all day long towing.

With my set up, RV275 injectors (65hp) and a Drag comp set on 2x3 and a stock turbo, I was able to pull a 2mile 12-13% grade in the heat with 18.5k or so in tow and not get above 1200 degrees. With a better turbo like the one you are looking at, I would be confident trying it again with even larger injectors something along the lines of Mach 3's (130hp). That just me though. For what you are looking to accomplish I'd say you pretty much know what you need.

I do understand where you're coming from though, its a big investment and you want to make sure you make the right one.

Well I have a standard transmission I though those came with a hx-35 and I already have the banks hot housing on it. I'm not real sure how big that housing is I think its a 12 or 14 cm housing but I wouldn't swear to it. But thanks for the help maybe I'll be able to hang with some larger gassers now.
