My Turbo?

Why does my Turbo look like crud? Here's a picture:

The shaft has no play forward and backward, a little side to side. Is it because the previous owner used an oil filter like a K&N? Thanks.

Ya I don't know, I just checked mine for play and it seems to have some as well. I don't know what's spec. That stuff could have been caused my a K&N being over oiled. They might come like from stock too I'm not sure.

Alright thanks, if yours has the same play then I'm not concerned. I've heard that using or over oiling an oil air filter can cause this just wanted to make sure my turbo wasn't about to shell out.

Uhm I didn't say that I'm not concerned. I just said mine has play too, I haven't checked my turbo out in over a year. So you can imagine. Mine might be bad too! You just reminded me to check mine. Over oiling can cause big bad things to happen turbo charged engines.

It's ok if it has a little play, just as long as it the wheel doesn't come in contact with the housing.

I would say it looks like that because of the K&N, mine looked the same when I got my truck, and the previous owner had one it it. Now I run A BHAF, and its awesome

Yeah, like charley said, a little play is acceptable, hitting the housing just causes bad things to happen. A little side to side movement can usually be felt and can be expected. End Run is a very bad thing. Is there much oil coming down into the charged air tube, the one that connects to the intercooler. If you're getting a bit of oil in there, its probably more troublesome than just the K&N, I would check that out.
