Timing or fuel

what does the super chips programmer mostly modifie timing or fuel, and is it safe to leave it on the high performance all the time. herd that superchips alone on a PSD will melt down pistons. just wondering if it had might have the same effects on CTD

From my experance with it is just fuel. It seemed to be really aggresive, low end fueling. The power seemed, decent, but not as good as other aftermarket stuff.

The Superchips tuner for our trucks, 98.5-02, "3705" is timing and fuel related. The top "hi-performance" setting only adds a claimed 70hp and something like 140 lb. ft. or something close. I had one of those for my 2000 and by testing all the settings, I found I gained the best fuel economy on the top setting. I also did tow tests on all the settings to see where my egt's would be, and believe it or not, while on the "tow safe" setting, which states to be used to tow more than 6000 lbs. I was getting higher egt's than on the hi performance setting.

IMO, the superchips tuner is a very nice unit to add a bit of fun to your driving while still getting a gain in mpg. It is also my thoughts that it is a very safe tuner for these trucks, as it dose not add so much extra power that you are going to need fuel delivery modifications, or have trouble with your tranny. So my conclusion is to do your own little testing, but keeping it on the hi performance setting should not hurt a thing ,maybe just helping mpg's....however, with any mod, if you dont have an egt gauge, I, as well as Superchips INC, recomend you getting one. Have fun with your new power!

My truck wants to be a semi when it grows up...
