Your 8th vin will be a "7" or a "C" (That might be debatable though)

On the side of your engine it will say it's rated at 245 HP. The S.O. or ETC engines are rated at 235 HP. The 6 Speed's (DEE) that had a ETC engine are very rare in the 2001 and 2002 trucks. Chances are you have a ETH or H.O.

No one will give you s**t for asking that question. There are alot of people, including people that mod, that really don't know the difference. ETH engines never came behind auto in the 2nd Gen's (Unfortantly). But you'll run into people with 2nd Gen Auto's that sware up and down they have HO. These are the same people that will sware a ETH is better to mod than a ETC. This is not so. Here I have a post copy and pasted from MKoth on a prevoius thread:

* Electronic Controls: New ECM calibration and fueling algorithms.
* Fuel Pump: Increased fuel flow in the Bosch VP44 injection pump.
* Injectors: Designed to provide increased fuel flow.
o Injector note posted to the TDRoundtable by tgbol:
+ ETH injectors (3946306) flow 600cc at 100bars for 30 seconds
+ ETC injectors (3944828) flow 640cc at the same test.
* Turbocharger: Revised wastegate setting for 26psi at the turbocharger outlet.
o Manifold boost specification is 43.5 inches Hg / 21 psi
* Head: Valve seat inserts for added durability.
* Pistons: New pistons with higher 17:1 compression ratio.
* Flywheel: New flywheel with 330 mm diameter clutch (vs. std. 310 mm).

The HO pump is limited to around 500-550hp max, and will not gain power by using any injector larger then 150-160hp. They also respond to electronics less.

I gotta say it sounds like phily pretty much nailed it one that one. Judging by your sig. your truck is most likely an H.O. unless someone switched the trans on ya.

Has anyone with a ETH/H.O. noticed that they are quieter than the ETC/S.O. engines? I would have thought with the higher injection pressures and higher compression they would have been louder.

Is that because you don't have a 5 inch on your ETH yet Phily? I'll have to check next time I'm at our place down in Southern Ca. My grandpa has a bone stock S.O. and My cousin has a stock H.O. Going strictly off memory, I think you might be right.

I got 4 inch pipe on my ETH, although it is only 4, it's main straight piece is longer than my ETC. Naturally being that my ETH is a long bed, club cab and my ETC is a regular cab.

The longer the pipe going from the front to the rear just really seem to exaggerate the acoustics of a engine.

There are a rare few out there with a ETC/DEE. Rare. 1999 and 2000 they exist, 2001 and 2002 extremely rare.
