Trans is dead again

OK, I purchased a trans from a guy that had it in a pulling truck. The trans maybe has 10 pulls on it if that. It is out off a 02. There is a suncoast t/c and valvebody already installed. I also put in a lockup switch. The trans has only been in a few months. I was haulin a trailer but nothing heavy. I was on my way home and third and fourth gear were slippin badly. By the time I got to the shop the truck would'nt move. My mechanic said the t/c feels like its gone. So here's the thing my wife and I just had a baby boy and she said no spendin money till spring. Plus everyone knows what month it is. I guess I'm lookin for a little help and input on what I should do. I know onething if it is the t/c I won't be buying anything from suncoast.
