24v air intake heater relay mal***tion

did this ever happen to any one else? one of the relays operating the air intake heater on my 24v 5.9 cummins stuck in the on position (with the key off) and melted the insulated boots on the wire connections to the AIH, the wires are fine, didn't short or anything, burnt the finish of the air intake elbow and melted the dipstick tube. I disconnected the leads from the AIH to stop the burning, this seemed to reset the relays. so when I replaced the leads to check for codes ( OBD I ) everything worked fine. plan to replace relays and damaged parts when I get them. What would caus the relay to stick on?

Any relay no matter what application can fail. Really no rhyme or reason why a relay usually fails.

After awhile the realy will stick together inside and won't want to release. I've seen this with older starter relays and small aux relays...

But you can use a Ford starter solinoid to replace the grid heater realys. They are much cheaper... But some people got a problem with using Ford parts...
