injector removal

how hard is it to change the injectors in an 01 cummins and about how long will it take are there any special tools you need or things to do??

97 f 250 xlt 4 inch lift, 36/15.50 tires, hypermax kit with sledghammer turbo, swamps 355mm injectors, compitition fuel system,bdp stealth pumps oil system, head studs, custom 4 inch exhaust, edge evo and ez stack

some one had a wright up on it. i belive that it only takes like 2 hours with no speical tools. Ask mopar1973man i think he has a wright up on it? but i'm not sure.

2001, 2500 tow rig.( BHAF with AFE turbo tube, BD AUX pump, 4" turbo back pipe, Super Phat Shaft turbo, Comp Box, SMARTY, Gauges { egt, boost, tranny}, Fully built Tranny, New BD-VP44, 40HP injectors Painted Valve cover) Looking to smoke everyone:

93 YJ Juggy rock crawler ( UNIMOG axles with lockers F/R, Atlas 4 speed T-case full body armor, 14" fox coilovers F/R, 42" Pitbull tires on 20" beadlocks).

Its easy. Just pull the valve cover, disconnect the injector lines from the transfer tubes where they meet the head, then thread the injector hold down bolt into the the top of the injector, grab that with a pair of pliers and pop them out. I usually put the handle of the pliers against a rocker arm for some leverage, but they are really usually pretty easy. Re-torque the hold down bolts to (8ft. lbs.) I believe it is, DOUBLE CHECK THAT THOUGH AND MAKE SURE I'M RIGHT, I COULD BE WRONG. The injectors only go in one way so you shouldn't have any trouble there. The only other pain is the number 6 line under the fire wall. You may have to remove the engine hoist point to get at that one.

sstockton pretty much said it all. It makes it alot easier to get the #6 line if you take the lift bracket off of the engine.

yea that # 6 line was a biotch, took us about 1hour and 45 mins, always fun to experiment on a buddies truck before you tear into yours

The secret to getting a wrench on #6 without taking anything extra off is to go buy a cheapie china wrench and introduce it to your angle grinder.

I was just told to use a crows foot wrench with a fine tooth rachet and stubby extension. Atleast to get it loose anyways. i found it to work very well when i put injectors in a buddies truck, IMO:Thumbup:

I did that at first, but even when the wrench was just cut enough to let the line through... It still spread open enough to slip on the fitting. Then the next install i did, i went ahead and cracked a craftsman open and it was even worse than the china cheapie.

Just beware.

buy a good qaulity stubby 19 mm or 3/4 both will fit and if you have to double wrench it the last ones i did took about 35 minutes by myself but i did it about 5 times in two weeks when the head gasket blew
