apps national backorder?

hello to all,
I have an 02 cummins., got an apps code and spotty throttle. I am going to check a few things today to verify it is bad but i am pretty sure it is. i called several dealers yesterday., they all told me the same thing, it costs $534 dollars, and it is on national backorder. none of them know the availability date. is that crazy? are people sitting around or driving rentals while waiting for a part to become available?
I have seen about trying to clean this, and resetting, etc. i will add info on how i resolve this. i wonder if anyone has tried slaving a potentiometer in here from newark or something, kind of a diy potentiometer ? i was talking to my buddy, he gave me the pinouts of the connector,
#1 batt 12vdc+ black w/white/blue stripe
#2 idle validation switch light green w dark blue stripe
#3 apps signal Light blue w/ black stripe
#4 apps ground black w/yellow stripe
#5apps supply voltage dark blue with white stripe
#6 idle validations switch brown w orange stripe

book lists couple of checks, check between frame ground and pin #4 for continuity (apps ground)
with the key on, check voltage between pin 5 to ground, should have 5 VDC
this really to me looks like you are only checking to see that it is getting power.
It would seem to me that i would ring out between pin 3 and 5 of the switch, with it disconnected from the vehicle looking for opens in its fulltravel range.

here is my question, is this little circuit board inside here an analog to digital converter? like a smart sensor that communicates via chryslers comm bus, or it just a potentiometer with a simpler voltage dividing circuit anyone know?

i heard a flux capacitor is a direct bolt on fix for this problem. only problem is you must be traveling at 88 mph for any calibration to start working. disconect and reconect batteries every 30 minutes for 13 days, then cycle key 666 times and prey to allah for the apps repair. worked for me.
