Talking New Shocks...

Well this is the first thing I've done to my truck in awhile now. I finally cough up some of my nest egg and bought a set of Rancho 5000 shocks... I haven't had much of a chance to test drive as of yet but it sure feels different...

During my install I started with the toughest tire which happens drivers front tire. After getting the top nut off I took the bottom bolt out and the 3 nuts holding the tower. But here comes the fun... The top washer won't come off! CRAP! So I got smart and compressed the shock together and tied it down with bailing wire and fished it out though the top with the tower attached! Talk about fun! The proceeded to get out the BFH and beat the trash out of the washer to get it off... Got it! Now I grabbed the first box and opened it up and was shocked to see that Ranchos are not tied down with the plastic band... Boy talk about fight... I grabbed the top of the shock and pulled and it took a lot to pull the shaft up... To shorten the story I manage to slam the front together rather quickly after that...

Now the rear...

Boy someone didn't think when they assembled the rear axle... Grab the impact and nail the trigger. The socket spun off and nailed me square in the mouth... OUCH! got the nut off... But the bolt was on backward and the sway bar was in the way. So I had to drop the sway bar to gain the room to pull the bolt out. So got that one taken care of... Growling at it... Now the driver side rear was a PITA as well... The spare tire got to come out and the bolt is buried up high on the frame. Now being skidish of the impact was effecting my performance of laying on my back on top of the spare tire and trying to spin a bolt out without getting smack again...

It seems that assembly was easier than the disassembly...

Well so far it a huge improvement for the road handling and the feel of the ride is way different. You feel the little bumps more now but the bigger holes and such are smooth now. Like driving up a wash-boarded road it held traction much better and didn't crow hop much at all...

Really a good set of shock for the money I put down on them!

ARP studs, sct, Leveling kit,Airdog set at 62psi with no factory pump, leveling kit,5" stacks, under cab lights, Large in the way Fan shroud Removed, bed Lights being Re-did. Large Alternator(250amps)(130 amps was so 2003). On 3rd set of Hgs(soon to be 4th), 2nd set of heads, 2nd tubro, egr cooler, FICM and more. When i Turn the Key it does return a Favor, not always in MY Favor.
