Squeeking Noise

Hey guys, just recently my truck started making a pretty loud squeaking noise. Its coming from the front of the motor. I am wondering how exactly to discern if it is the water pump or the idle tensioner. I just recently replaced the alternator and belt. I am not loosing any coolant, as I have been checking this daily. The truck has about 262K on it.
Thanks in advance
-Jeff

Its the belt tentioner, I had the same thing happen to me, i recently replaced my alternator and then started getting a squeeking noise coming from the same area and thought i had defective bearings in the alternator. No way i thought so I got a belt tentioner and that fixed the problem, and my tentioner only had 105,000 miles on it too. Get ready for this one, its a dealer/cummins item only obviously so if you goto the dodge dealer get ready to spend around $150 or so.

AHH even better! I just found on Auto Zones web site I can get just the tensioner, without the arm and all, for 15 bucks! It looks like you just take the whole assembly off, remove the bolt, and put the new pulley wheel in place. I'm going to try and get one and do it before class tomorrow morning! Being a poor college student, this was the best news I've had all night!

well just to let you know you that autozone special will work for a while, but won't last long like a genuine cummins part. for futuer refference buy the cummins parts for the engine or mopar parts, they will last a lot longer.

Yea, I totally agree, but at least for the time being, this will have to do, as I wont start making money again till May, so Im bound for the cheap stuff this time.
