What`s a 5.9 worth?

There is a 5.9 completely rebuilt at a farm auction in two weeks in my area. The sale brochure only says that it is rebuilt & is for a Dodge truck. I`ve been thinking of building a Ford with cummins & wonder whats it worth? Can you give me an idea on 12 valve & 24 valve. I`m sure it isn`t a common rail. I want to build a working truck so fuel millage & towing will be more important than hp.. Also is there any thing I should avoid? Thanks.

If its a 12 valve that would be a lot better b/c you wont have to mess with the electronic injection...here where I am I have seen 12 and 24 valves going for 2k-3500 on avg...

Watch yourself with the price. You'll find remans and used motors are selling for more than whole Dodge trucks. What is the price btw?

Ya there was a 1st gen 4x4 that went for 800 in September. It had $hhitty stacks and was ugly but drove fine. 2nd Gen's thankfully still hold value around here.

Thank`s for the replies. There is a first gen about a mile from me that runs but no telling how many miles are on it. I`ve been dropping hints to the owner about buying it & he told me today that he would give me a price tomorrow. I think I can buy the whole truck for a few hundred but then I`ll have to go through the engine. If the 5.9 at the sale has paper work proving that it was done right, I`ll bid alittle extra. Now, if I can find a ford with a bad engine. Thank`s again.

Don't worry about the miles on the engine unless it's modified.
